I received this lens on Friday 3/13/09 and returned it the same day.
The order process and customer service through Amazon & Photobags was very good. However, the lens was mechanically unsound and or simply a poor design.
I did shoot some pictures with it the short time I had it and they looked great from either end of the spectrum, from 18 all the way to 270.
I had read where some were somewhat dissatisfied with the action of the zoom in that it got tight at the mid point. Mine didn’t get a little tight, it stopped. I figured that it just needed a little more effort to make it get past that point but was wrong, I turned with enough force that the rubber zoom ring jumped track! If I pointed the barrel downward it would zoom out just fine, if I pointed the barrel upwards it would retract just fine. If I tried to point the camera as if taking a picture and trying to either zoom out or in it would lock up tight at the midway point.
I would not accept this problem in a lens that cost $25. 00 much less one costing as this one did.

This zoom was too big, in my opinion, for a Canon Rebel XT. Zooming was hard about mid-way. . . drove me nuts. Lens creep was very bad, when I went to review pictures out the lens went. Decided to return the lens and ended up buying a Canon 55-250.

Tamron 18-270 vc . . . paired with canon Xsi with opteka battery grip holding two batteries, is just plain perfect for my needs. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . if i have problem with focus i just switch manual =)
i got it in a local store (samy’s) i made sure i can try it out before i purchase it (to check for quality control issues) i traded in the kit lens canon 18-55 IS for a good price, i figured i can one day buy another lens having f2. 8 later on prolly an L if budget allow. . (by canon or tamron. . . ) the pix tamron 18-270 takes is just unbelievable, just play around with it and u will see what i mean. . . i usually have it on AV mode
if in low light [ ] metering is what i use. . and use manual focus . . . . . . .
at the 200 range it is f 5. 6 then above 200 is f6. 3 so i figured it behaves somewhat like the canon 18-200 . . i tried both lens and i decided on the tamron. .
so they say it’s not of high quality, well for the regular joe like me all
i do is take plenty of shots and then decide later which ones to keep and to dispose and trust me there are a whole lot of great shots = low light
or bright light. . . . . i recently used it in church with dim lights and guess what? it rocks all the way. . .
play with ISO / f stops / exposure and there u go!!

i also purchased the canon f1. 4 50mm for exceptional portraits and low light situations. . . . . . . oh i feel almost complete bwahahaha (my future will be a speed light / prime lens intended for real macro / and
Canon f2. 8L 24-70 but that wont be anytime soon coz i’m very satisfied with what i got. . i only use the built in flash (with a difusser sometimes) but for the most part i don’t use flash. . . . . . . i play with the settings. . .

Great lens. Perfect for all shots. Replaced two separate lens, now I don’t have to change lens while shooting an event.
